The Settlers of Catan™ are coming to America

Fans of the award-winning, multi-million selling The Settlers of Catan™ will have new lands to settle soon. To celebrate the 234th anniversary of the United States and the 15th anniversary of The Settlers of Catan™, Mayfair Games is proud to announce that Catan Histories: Settlers of America, Trails to Rails™ is set to be released in the United States on Thursday, July 15 at hobby and game stores around the country. Designed by Klaus Teuber, this new Catan adventure uses a map of the United States, along with the familiar Catan hex-tile grid.

The game focuses on 19th Century Americans as they head west. Wagon trains are formed up and sent out to settle new lands and build new cities. The new cities need railroad lines to bring in necessary goods. Players link these cities with rails of steel and operate their railroads to supply the townsfolk with goods. To do the players will need to gather and trade their resources wisely.

Settlers of America, Trails to Rails™ debuted at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH (June 24-27, 2010); it will be available for sale at hobby and game shops on July 15, 2010. For those who have played The Settlers of Catan™, this game is as accessible and fun as the original. There are trades to be made and cities to be built; are you ready to leave the island of Catan and head towards America?

Mayfair Games, founded in 1981, is an independent publisher of high quality games designed for gamers and family play.

Hello Tony,
We don't have a regular group that plays backgammon, yet. You're welcome to post a message on our bulletin board that you're looking for players.

I found your website by accident, but am happy to learn you exist. Do any of your folks play Backgammon? I have been driving to Boulder to play in their tournaments, but would love some closer games.

There's no doubt that the internet discounters have hurt many retailers. Yet, I have talked with many game store owners who say, "Yes, you can make a good living at this business." Even in the face of a recession and internet discounters I remain optimistic. The heartfelt expressions of support from my customers gives me hope and joy. The support of the GAMA Retail division has been invaluable to me, and I would recommend their seminars to any specialty business owner. Check them out as podcasts for free at Pulp Gamer.

I own a store right now and it is really difficult to do . I make a little money but it seems the Internet has crushed this idea. I have 20 plus years in it and I always had to work a part time job to stay afloat. The internet is making it impossible to make ends meet . I started a table use fee where they have to spend $5 purchase in the store to hang out and play. I love doing it but it means dealing with cheap ass people all the time. They always say hey I can get it cheaper. I just tell them buy $5 or more and you play all day here. I will tell you be ready to work for little money and few people see how hard it is to keep a store open.
