A Game of Thrones: The Board Game Second Edition

Fantasy Flight Games has announced that they will be reprinting one of their best loved board games, A Game of Thrones. While this is Fantasy Flights best selling game (next to Descent), they have not reprinted it in many years. Although the original two expansions will not be reprinted, the 2nd edition of the game will include some elements from them.

From the Publisher:

The updated second edition brings a host of enhancements to your A Game of Thrones experience. It includes elements from the A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords expansions, including ports, garrisons, Wildling cards, and Siege engines, while introducing welcome new innovations like player screens and Tides of Battle cards. This, along with updated graphics and a clarified ruleset, means the time has never been better to take control of Westeros.

The game will retail for $59.95 and you can preorder a copy at the shop.

Samurai Swords Reprinted as Ikusa

Back in the 1980′s Milton Bradly released a series of light war games with high production value. These games we called the Gamemaster Series and they were known for their big boxes, large boards and lots of plastic pieces.  Axis and Allies became the best known of the series, but others are remembered for their components (Broadsides and Boarding Parties, for example, came with two large plastic ships and a full crew of little plastic pirate figures.)

The last game in the series was Shogun, later renamed Samurai Swords after a name conflict with James Clavell’s Shogun.

Hasbro has just re-released Samurai Swords under yet another title – Ikusa.

From the Publisher:

It is the sixteenth century in feudal Japan, where war rages across the land. Amid the chaos and conflict, you have risen to power as one of five warlords mighty enough to conquer and control the whole empire. Your victory depends on how expertly you extend your domain while defending it from your enemies.

Send your daimyo leaders, samurai, and ashigaru warriors into battle to seize new provinces and lay siege to castles. Spend your hard-won treasury on building fortifications and bolstering your forces with ronin and ninja.

Prove the strength of your strategy, defeat your rivals, and earn the exalted title of Shogun.

Set details:

  • The classic rules of this game have not been changed – still a challenge for any strategy board gamer.
  • The box and game board design have been radically improved. The game board has a new “period feel.”
  • All of the classic sculptures used for the figures are back with new colors.

Fantasy Flight Announces Elder Sign

A card game version of Arkham Horror? Yes, please!

From the publisher:
This cooperative dice game pits one to eight players against a museum’s supernatural perils as an Ancient One stirs from its elder slumber.

For years, the museum has collected rare curios and exotic artifacts. The occult power of so many powerful relics housed together has weakened the barriers between dimensions. Monsters creep into our world, and the Ancient One approaches.

Players take the roles of investigators on a desperate hunt for Elder Signs, the eldritch symbols needed to close the portals and seal away the Ancient One forever.

Elder Sign recreates the Lovecraftian thrills of eerie suspense and mind-numbing horrors. Richard Launius and Kevin Wilson, the designers of Arkham Horror, blend rules, card text, and innovative dice mechanics to form a game that’s already generating a buzz.
