The Army Painter is a very cool system of painting your miniatures in a quick, but high quality way. They make spray primers with a base color built in. Their Quickshade system allows you to weather a model by simply dipping it in the can and shaking the excess off.
In addition, Army Painter also makes a line of cutters, files, drills and other tools made specifically for either plastic or metal minis.

Looking for scalability? Malifaux has it. Jump directly into a Scrap with 4 – 6 miniatures, ensuring a quick and brutal fight with each character having unique skills and abilities. Want to escalate it? Take it to a Brawl, bring in additional members of your faction or hire out mercenaries to do your dirty work.
Malifaux comes packaged in blisters of 1 to 3 figures as well as boxed sets of 4 to 6 figures. A single box set is enough for one person to start playing. A nice addition is the ability to get custom bases for the figures. These bases put figures in their own setting (graveyard, sewer, swamp, etc), making each model a display piece.
